The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a contribution of $5.5 million to support the United Nations “Mawasil” program, which works to improve living conditions in Syria.
According to Japan’s Kyodo News Agency, the ministry stated in a press release: “As the situation in Syria continues and more refugees return to their homes, helping people secure a safe living environment has become an urgent issue.”
The ministry explained that the “Mawasil” program, signed by Japan and the UN, targets Aleppo and Homs, two of the most affected areas in Syria, aiming to rebuild basic infrastructure in poor and informal neighborhoods.
It is worth noting that Japan, a leading donor to humanitarian recovery efforts in Syria, has contributed over $21 million to support the UN “Mawasil” program projects assisting vulnerable Syrian communities since 2022.
