The Legislation and Opinion Bureau has published on its website the draft amended law on the National Service Law for the year 2025.
The comment period on the draft lasts fifteen days from the date of publication, allowing citizens to send their observations and suggestions to improve and develop the laws in the public interest. Afterwards, the draft will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval, then to the Parliament to proceed with constitutional procedures.
Earlier, the Cabinet, in a session chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, approved the justifications for the draft amended law on National Service and Reserve Service for 2025 and granted it urgent status, to be presented at the next parliamentary session.
This decision follows the announcement by His Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II to reactivate the National Service program. The Prime Minister confirmed during the last Cabinet session that the government will complete the necessary work to reactivate the program in cooperation with the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army, with implementation starting in February next year. The necessary resources will be allocated from the emergency expenses budget for this year and the 2026 budget to prepare for the program.
The draft law regulates provisions related to some new legal requirements for activating and implementing the National Service program, including acceptable postponement cases such as for residents abroad who must return to service once the reasons for postponement end. It also enables the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army to provide training programs in its centers and institutes for conscripts, which can be counted by educational authorities as part of university study requirements according to instructions issued by the Cabinet for this purpose.
The draft law includes the cancellation of provisions granting conscripts who complete their national service any priority in appointments in ministries, government departments, institutions, companies, and private sector entities.
