The Palestinian Ma’an Agency reported that the Rafah crossing will open after the Jewish holidays for the movement of people only from the Gaza Strip to Egypt under an international monitoring mechanism supervised by Israel, according to the agreement between Israel and Hamas mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to end the Gaza war.

The Rafah crossing was closed on October 7 after being taken over by occupation forces. The military fears that Hamas might attempt to smuggle weapons.

According to the agreement, an international mechanism will be established including a European-Egyptian delegation under Israeli supervision, similar to the mechanism that operated in January 2025 to monitor the entry of people and goods from Egypt to Gaza.

However, Israeli military sources stated that this mechanism has not yet been agreed upon and there is no authorization to operate the crossing for entry into Gaza.

Aside from the pedestrian crossing, Israeli military authorities insist that goods and humanitarian aid will only enter through the Kerem Shalom crossing, supervised by the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

Accordingly, no construction materials for reconstruction or dual-use materials will be allowed to enter.
