His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of Bahrain, participated in the Gulf Forum for Green Mobility held in Salalah, Sultanate of Oman, under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Salem bin Mustahil Al Maashani, Advisor at the Royal Diwan. The event was attended by His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki bin Mahmoud Al Said, Governor of Dhofar Governorate, Mr. Salem bin Muslim Fatan, Deputy Chairman of the State Council of Oman, and several ministers, specialists, and experts from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The forum aimed to enhance environmental sustainability in the transport sector and encourage the use of clean and alternative means.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman, focused on exchanging experiences and expertise among Gulf countries in sustainable transport and environmentally friendly technologies, highlighting key policies and initiatives contributing to carbon neutrality goals and reducing carbon emissions in the sector.
His Excellency met with His Excellency Eng. Said bin Hamoud bin Said Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman, in the presence of Eng. Nayef bin Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Oman, and Mr. Omar bin Mahmoud Al-Mahrazi, CEO of Asyad Ports Company. The meeting discussed ways to enhance joint Gulf cooperation in green transport, exchange best practices and policies supporting innovation and sustainability in this vital sector, and strengthen bilateral coordination between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman in sustainable transport projects and technical experience exchange.
He also visited Salalah Port and the Free Zone, where he reviewed various port operations including container and general cargo handling, modern technologies used to accelerate logistics operations, and future plans to expand the port and increase its operational capacity. He also inspected the latest facilities of the Free Zone and the supporting logistics services provided to local and international companies and investors, reinforcing Salalah’s position as a pivotal trade and transport hub in the region. He affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation with Oman in transport, logistics services, and free trade.
Additionally, he visited the Green Data Center, one of the Oman Vision 2040 projects, which is a large data repository fully reliant on renewable energy, using solar power, hydrogen, and seawater cooling technologies.
At the conclusion of his visit, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa expressed his appreciation for the great efforts exerted by the Sultanate of Oman in promoting sustainable transport and developing logistics infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Bahrain and Oman in transport, logistics services, and free trade, and exchanging expertise and modern technologies. He stressed that this strategic partnership with Oman represents a model to be emulated in joint work at the Gulf Cooperation Council level, contributing to enhancing Gulf integration, supporting sustainable development, and innovation in the logistics and transport sector.
