Dr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stated that the ministry has launched an urgent package of measures to support breeders in Menoufia and Giza as a first phase, following the rise in Nile water levels in the floodplain areas caused by the Renaissance Dam. The measures included veterinary and advisory convoys across the affected governorates.
He pointed out in a television statement on Al-Hadath Al-Youm channel that “mortality rates due to the rise in Nile water levels were very low,” confirming that the move aimed to support breeders and reduce negative effects.
He noted that more than 3,700 heads of livestock and birds were examined, with vaccinations and awareness campaigns to prevent diseases.
On another note, he mentioned the issuance of more than 1,000 licenses for animal and poultry production activities, including 818 approvals in the desert hinterland, alongside licenses for small farmers with fewer than 19 heads, approval to register more than 800 feed mixtures (436 local and 314 imported) according to global standards, and the approval of 118 technical approvals for livestock projects.
He also highlighted coordination with the Agricultural Bank to revive struggling farms with a 5% facilitated financing, injecting more than 10 billion Egyptian pounds into the “Batlou” project and loans extending 9 to 12 months with 5% interest, in addition to a dairy farm development initiative funded with over 800 million Egyptian pounds.
