Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, met today, Saturday, with Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, in the presence of Ambassador Abu Bakr Hefni, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, to discuss ways to enhance the access of Egyptian medicine to foreign markets.
Minister Abdel Aati affirmed that the pharmaceutical sector is one of the fundamental pillars of Egyptian cooperation with developing countries, noting that Egypt possesses advanced industrial capabilities and scientific and research capacities qualifying it to be a regional center for pharmaceutical manufacturing and export. This contributes to opening foreign markets, providing foreign currency resources, and strengthening trade and economic ties between Egypt and various countries, especially African nations. He confirmed the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for all efforts and proposals aimed at enhancing Egyptian pharmaceutical exports abroad.
The Foreign Minister also stressed that enhancing the presence of Egyptian medicine in foreign markets, especially African ones, contributes to supporting development efforts, localizing pharmaceutical industries, and meeting the needs of the African market, in line with the directives of the political leadership to increase Egyptian pharmaceutical exports to the continent and strengthen Egypt’s role in achieving African health security.
Minister Abdel Aati pointed out the pivotal role of embassies and diplomatic missions in promoting Egyptian pharmaceutical products and medical supplies, opening direct communication channels with African health and regulatory authorities, as well as supporting the participation of Egyptian companies in regional and international medical exhibitions. He also referred to ongoing directives for all embassies abroad to work on registering Egyptian medicine in the host countries.
The Foreign Minister confirmed the ministry’s continued use of its diplomatic tools to overcome obstacles to the access of Egyptian products and to build strategic partnerships with various countries in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
For his part, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy reviewed ongoing efforts to develop the national pharmaceutical system and enhance compliance with international standards to facilitate the approval of Egyptian products in foreign markets, noting coordination with relevant ministries and national bodies to support medical exports.
In this context, an agreement was reached to intensify coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Egyptian Drug Authority to activate cooperation mechanisms with African countries in joint manufacturing, technology transfer, and training of personnel, which enhances the competitiveness of the Egyptian product and reflects Egypt’s leading role in supporting health development.
