Tripoli, August 31, 2025 (WAL) – This Sunday morning, an expanded meeting was held at the Ministry of Interior headquarters, chaired by Major General Mohamed Al-Marghani, head of the technical committee responsible for following up on illegal migration and border security, based on directives from the acting Minister of Interior and head of the Supreme Committee for monitoring the file.

The meeting included several committee members alongside representatives from the Ministries of Interior and relevant international organizations and agencies, including the Libyan Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The attendees discussed mechanisms to enhance coordination with international partners to increase voluntary return and humanitarian evacuation trips, as well as addressing challenges hindering the implementation of these trips, within the framework of the ministry’s plan to combat illegal migration.

The meeting also touched on preparing a plan to temporarily distribute aid to Sudanese displaced persons until their return to their country, in addition to discussing a plan to repatriate Syrian displaced persons in coordination with the Syrian government and relevant international bodies.

This meeting coincides with the implementation of deportation operations for illegal migrants, as a group was deported to Niger last night as part of the Government of National Unity’s initiative to organize voluntary returns in accordance with national laws and international standards.
