An American official familiar with the negotiations between the two sides announced that the flight plans had reached their final stages.
The New York Times quoted Iranian officials confirming that a chartered American plane took off from Louisiana on Monday evening and is scheduled to arrive in the capital Tehran via Qatar on Tuesday.
