Is Yemen’s hour striking? – Lotfi Fouad Nouman
The unexpected happens. Contrary to expectations, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition figure Marina Corina Machado (born October 7, 1967), while it was expected that former US President Donald Trump would receive it for his plan to end the repercussions of the “October 7” 2023 events in Gaza and his claim of stopping seven wars!
As news spread that Norway was preparing for a surprising reaction from Trump over not winning the prize, it was unexpected that he would accept the decision in good spirit; Trump received a call from Machado who gifted him the prize, credited him for her win, and praised his support… The wealthy are also “flattered by praise”.
Trump draws attention but does not cause much trouble. While his wit resists gloom, his surprises provoke the “gloom of resistance” among the “Tango of Destruction” dancers in the region, as the rhythm of the dance stopped.
Ten days before the announcement of the Venezuelan Machado, Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai, and Saudi-Palestinian scientist Omar Yaghi winning Nobel prizes for Peace, Literature, and Chemistry respectively, the US president announced a plan to stop the Gaza war, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to his right, who came to Washington to recover from the effects of the UN General Assembly in New York. But Netanyahu swallowed a bitter pill and faced some harsh effects after Trump considered the world’s gathering for three reasons:
- Territorial sovereignty
- First – Recognition of an independent Palestinian state translating the two-state solution, thanks to Saudi Arabia and France.
- Second – Massacres by occupation forces against innocent Palestinian women, children, and elderly.
- Third – Violation of territorial sovereignty under the pretext of eliminating Hamas leaders… Netanyahu had to call and apologize to the Qatari Prime Minister from the White House.
This dose doubled his pain and weakened him before his audience. Another audience also suffers great disappointment, even if they eased the blow to themselves by declaring the same as announced from the Israeli West Bank: victory… and blessing the victory! What victory? Only God knows.
The declarations of “victories” resemble an image captured by Krasznahorkai’s novel “Tango of Destruction”: “… she could not help but notice that the devil had achieved a complete, albeit temporary, victory (isn’t this the devil’s goal?).”
Well, we will go along with everyone saying: everyone won and survived.
Israeli blackmail continues, just as Trump’s plans and deals through his influential envoys remain under presentation and implementation. Meanwhile, Arab and Islamic countries continue their efforts for the Palestinian cause.
Regarding the element that inserted itself amid the “Tango of Destruction” on the Gaza stage: the Ansar Allah group (Houthis), which exposed Yemen to Israeli airstrikes, keeping the “Yemenization: the Yemeni crisis” alive as well; raising questions about whether the Gaza war ceasefire after the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement on October 9, and Trump’s plan on September 30, 2025, means that Yemen’s hour has struck and the time for #Peace_for_Yemen is near? And will the “Grindberg plan” soaked in Red Sea waters, where the Houthis threw the UN roadmap issued in late December 2023, be dried up, distracted by Gaza’s support rather than #Peace_for_Yemen?
The answer will soon come, as a feeling of gloom follows the Gaza war ceasefire and preparations to look at the #Peace_for_Yemen process, which requires and expects all Yemeni parties to take responsibility seriously; the whole world has agreed on what is expected to be done to prove seriousness and credibility in heading towards the path of peace, if they can find a way. Let’s watch who defies expectations and when Yemen’s hour will strike.
