Karim Abdel Baqi, head of the General Union of Workers in Prosecutors and Courts, announced an unprecedented package of social and economic services provided by the union to its members under the “Our Duty” initiative. He confirmed that the initiative has become a comprehensive support umbrella covering all aspects of the workers’ lives and their families, starting from providing basic goods and religious trips to good loans and durable goods.

In exclusive statements to Youm7, Abdel Baqi explained that the initiative is not limited to a single service but is an integrated system including sub-initiatives for gold, foodstuffs, meat, advances, and residential apartments.

Abdel Baqi announced the most prominent new services, saying: “We are preparing Umrah trips for workers in prosecutors and courts, which will be on comfortable installments and completely interest-free. The General Union will bear the full payment to the travel company, and the member will pay it in installments over six months to avoid any suspicion of usury. We pay the amount from the union’s funds, and the member repays us as is.”

He added: “To ensure the best service and price, we contracted a private plane from EgyptAir with a capacity of 650 seats, and we obtained an exclusive 25% discount on the trip price, which will directly reflect on the final cost borne by the member, saving him about 5 to 6 thousand Egyptian pounds compared to market prices.”

Abdel Baqi highlighted the success of the meat initiative, saying: “The volume of subsidized meat we provided during Eid al-Adha alone reached a value of 8 million Egyptian pounds. We offer employees one kilo of local meat at 380 pounds, while its price outside reaches 450 pounds. The amount is paid in installments over three months deducted from the salary. The large price difference is borne by the union as direct support to the members.”

He also confirmed the continuation of the union in providing direct financial support to members, saying: “We provide good advances to colleagues in need ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 pounds, without any interest, and they are paid in comfortable installments up to 10 months. This system is done through salary deduction forms and is fully documented.”

Regarding durable goods, he said: “We have an integrated sector for electrical appliances in cooperation with major companies. The exclusive advantage we offer is that the interest our members get does not exceed 23%, compared to 35% and 40% in the market. The union acts as guarantor and collector, which enabled us to obtain this large discount in interest rates for the benefit of our colleagues,” confirming that all these services are documented and that the “Our Duty” initiative continues to expand to provide everything that meets the needs of workers in prosecutors and courts and their families, reflecting the pioneering social role played by the union.
