The First Terrorism Circuit, convened in Badr and headed by Counselor Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sherbiny, is today considering the trial of 292 defendants accused of ISIS Fifth Settlement cell in case number 1679 of 2024. The referral order stated that from 2015 until September 11, 2022, the defendants from the first, thirty-eighth, and forty-seventh units led a terrorist group aiming to disrupt public order, endanger community safety, obstruct the constitution and law, prevent state institutions and public authorities from performing their duties, violate citizens’ personal freedoms, harm national unity and social peace, and trained cell members to commit terrorist acts. The defendants from the second to the thirty-seventh and from the forty-eighth to the last unit joined the group knowing its purposes. Some defendants were charged with terrorism financing crimes. Defendants number 226 were charged with joining a terrorist group based abroad, and defendants 44 and 45 were charged with possession of firearms.
