According to the Hebrew site “Walla” on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told representatives of the West Bank Settlements Council yesterday that the time is not right for sovereignty over the West Bank.

The “Times of Israel” reported that Netanyahu acknowledged facing a “complex reality,” indicating that Israel’s annexation of parts of the West Bank is unlikely, according to the Palestinian Ma’an news agency.

Meanwhile, the head of the West Bank Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, said he felt “deep concern” after leaving the meeting with Netanyahu and settlement representatives, according to Euro News.

The Hebrew site “Walla” quoted Dagan as saying the meeting was “very long, and we felt great concern afterward.” He added that Netanyahu listened to them but refused to commit to a timeline for applying sovereignty over the occupied West Bank. He added: “This government may approve the establishment of a Palestinian state, and that would be like another October 7th.”

Right-wing settlement leaders tried to pressure Netanyahu to annex parts of the West Bank and not end the war in Gaza, rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal, who told reporters at the White House on Thursday: “I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. That will not happen.”

Dagan said in a statement issued by the Yesha Council, using the biblical name for the West Bank: “Sovereignty alone in Judea and Samaria is the victory. Disagreements can happen even among friends, and Netanyahu is the person who can tell the United States that this is what is good for the nation of Israel,” he said.
