Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized on Monday in Washington that the Palestinian Authority will have no role in the Gaza Strip without a fundamental change, according to US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in the area.

During a joint press conference with Trump, Netanyahu said, “Gaza will have a civilian and peaceful administration led neither by Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority.”

Addressing Trump, he added, “Regarding the Palestinian Authority, I appreciate your firm stance that it will have no role in Gaza without a real, fundamental, and genuine transformation.”

According to Netanyahu, Israel “will retain responsibility for security” in Gaza under the US peace plan, warning that the Jewish state “will complete the mission” if Hamas rejects the plan.

He continued, “Hamas will be disarmed. Gaza will be weapon-free. Israel will maintain security responsibility, including a security zone in the foreseeable future. Israel’s withdrawal depends on the extent of Hamas disarmament.”

He concluded, “If Hamas rejects your plan, Mr. President, or claims acceptance but does everything possible to oppose it, Israel will complete the mission itself. It can be done easily or it can be done with difficulty, but it will be accomplished.”

The White House published Trump’s 20-point plan calling for a ceasefire, a hostage exchange between Hamas-held captives and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territory, Hamas disarmament, and a transitional government led by an international body.

Trump stated, “I also want to thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for agreeing to the plan and for his confidence that if we work together, we can put an end to the death and destruction we have witnessed for years, decades, even many centuries, and start a new chapter of security, peace, and prosperity for the entire region.”
