Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that Israel “will retain responsibility for security” in the Gaza Strip under the U.S. peace plan, warning that the Jewish state “will complete the mission” if Hamas rejects the plan.

Netanyahu said at a joint press conference with U.S. President Donald Trump, “Hamas will be disarmed. Gaza will be weapon-free. Israel will retain responsibility for security, including a security zone in the foreseeable future. Also, Gaza will have a peaceful civilian administration not run by Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.”

He added, “If Hamas rejects your plan, Mr. President, or if it pretends to accept it but does everything possible to oppose it, Israel will complete the mission itself. It can be done easily or it can be done with difficulty, but it will be done.”
