Berlin, September 29, 2025 (WAL) – German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz intends to invite participants to the so-called “Car Summit” on October 9, amid the crisis facing Germany’s automotive industry.

The German news agency reported that the meeting will include several ministers, heads of governments of German states with car production sites, representatives of major car manufacturers and suppliers, as well as worker representatives.

The German automotive industry is facing a sales slump, strong competition from China, alongside the shift towards electric mobility, in addition to a tariff dispute with the United States.

Many car companies such as Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, and Audi are adopting austerity policies, cutting jobs or reducing working hours, all of which have recently recorded profit declines, with some companies experiencing sharp drops.

It is noted that the automotive technology company Bosch announced last Thursday its intention to cut an additional thirteen thousand jobs to reduce costs.
