Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced his country’s participation in the Gaza peace summit scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Greek newspaper “Ekathimerini” reported today, Sunday, that Mitsotakis said during his usual weekly social media review: “I will be in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, tomorrow to attend the signing of the agreement,” adding: “Greece is one of the European countries attending, alongside Cyprus.”

The Greek Prime Minister described the agreement as historic, affirming that it offers a new opportunity for peace in the Middle East.

Mitsotakis, who also praised the role of US President Donald Trump in this initiative, said: “For the first time, realistic prospects for peace are being provided in the wider region.”

He added that Greece is ready to assist in implementing the agreement.

The Prime Minister said: “We are in continuous dialogue with all our partners and allies in the region and are ready to actively contribute to advancing this agreement so that it does not remain just ink on paper.”

Sharm El-Sheikh will host the summit chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency.

The statement mentioned that more than twenty world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, will attend the summit.

Meanwhile, Egyptian presidency spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy said the summit aims to “end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to establish peace and stability in the Middle East, and open a new chapter of regional security and stability.”
