The Manouba governorate has witnessed a rise in watermelon prices, with the price per kilogram ranging between 1400 and 1600 millimes, amid a noticeable decline in supply due to the increased cost of the product at the collection site, which ranged between 1000 and 1200 millimes depending on the product quality. This price increase does not benefit traders or consumers, especially as farmers tend to export the product to Libya where prices are higher, which limits the supply of watermelons to local markets and contributes to the price hike.
