Amnesty International has renewed its calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, urging Israel to stop the ongoing genocide against Palestinians in the area.
In a statement published today on the organization’s website, Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, called on Israel to immediately halt the genocide it is committing against Palestinians in Gaza, including deliberate starvation and mass displacement policies, considering that an immediate ceasefire is not only a moral duty but a global responsibility.
Callamard also demanded the immediate release of thousands of Palestinians arbitrarily detained by Israel, an end to violations against Palestinian detainees, and a stop to the detention of Palestinian bodies as bargaining chips, a practice Israel has long engaged in illegally.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide crimes in Gaza including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.
