Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk opened the Warsaw Security Conference, held in the Polish capital on Monday, urging the West to “unite” to confront Russia in its war on Ukraine, while Moscow warned against escalation, describing Europe and its leaders as “divided and weak.”
Tusk stated, “This war is our war too,” considering Russia’s aggressive war part of a political project aimed at subjugating other peoples.
He added, “If we lose this war, the consequences will affect not only our generation but also the next generation in Poland, Europe, the United States, and everywhere else in the world.”
Tusk ruled out any settlement with Moscow, saying the only reasons for surrender are “weak will, doubt, cowardice, or lack of imagination.”
Meanwhile, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said today that “Russia poses an increasing threat to NATO.”
Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Pistorius said Moscow “is testing NATO allies with increasing pace and intensity.”
He added, “Russian President Vladimir Putin deliberately seeks to undermine European security and the territorial integrity of European countries, provoking NATO members and trying to expose weaknesses within our alliance.”
He continued, “But NATO has responded to Russia’s provocations with clarity, unity, determination, and wisdom, and we will not fall into Putin’s trap of continuous escalation. We will remain calm while maintaining our firmness and resolve.”
Pistorius said, “When needed, NATO forces are fully prepared, just like our allies’ aircraft in the Baltic states that were dispatched to escort Russian planes out of Estonian airspace.” He added, “We will continue to work closely together to strengthen our air defense.”
The Polish capital hosts the Warsaw Security Forum with participation from defense and foreign ministers from European countries and NATO members, discussing ways to enhance European security amid rising tensions with Russia and support for Ukraine.
Coinciding with the forum, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev affirmed that “Russia does not want war with anyone, especially Europe, which is losing its identity and has a weak economy dependent on the United States.”
Medvedev wrote on his Telegram page today: “In European countries, news about a war with Russia within the next five years is broadcast from every angle. It should not happen. Why? Because it conflicts with our country’s interests.”
According to Medvedev, “Russia fundamentally does not need war with anyone, including cold old Europe. There is nothing worth hunting there; Europe’s economy is weak and dependent on the United States, and its culture is disgracefully decaying. Europe is losing its identity and melting into aggressive migrants.”
He added, “The main task of the Russian people is to develop their territory, including reclaiming our returned lands. This is neither easy nor cheap. Russia has always come to Europe only as a liberator, not an invader.”
The Russian official went on to say, “European countries are weak and divided. They can only pursue their own interests, trying to survive in the current economic chaos. Simply put, they cannot afford a war with Russia.”
He considered European leaders “trivial and incapable of bearing the burden of responsibility for any serious action; they lack strategic thinking and the ability to make successful military decisions. Most Europeans are idle and privileged; they do not want to fight for any public values, not even for their land.”
Medvedev concluded, “Why is war possible anyway? The chance of a tragic accident always exists. The factor of excessive activity by frozen fools has not disappeared anywhere. There is a very real danger of such a conflict escalating into a war using weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, we must remain vigilant.”
