Dr. Mufid Shehab, Professor of International Law and former Minister of Legal Affairs, stated that the dispute with Ethiopia is the result of “its aggression and violation of international river laws and agreements concerning the Nile Basin.”

During a television interview with journalist Sherif Amer on the program “Happening in Egypt” aired on “MBC Egypt” Thursday evening, he pointed out “Ethiopia’s continued violation of international legitimacy and its international obligations,” affirming that Egypt “is still trying by all means to reach a settlement that does not concede an inch of its rights.”

He praised “Egypt’s persistence in defending its rights,” citing the historical experience of reclaiming Taba, saying: “When this small piece remained and Israel did not want to leave it, we were determined to take it back no matter what.”

He confirmed that this “firm Egyptian doctrine” was clearly manifested in the “historic event” of the ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that this achievement “will be recorded for Egypt and President El-Sisi for their firm stance that has not changed since the first day of the criminal extermination war on Palestine.”

He added that the agreement proves that Egypt “was right” in the principles it advocated from the beginning, rejecting displacement, insisting on humanitarian aid access, and a ceasefire, affirming that “Egypt defended and succeeded in achieving all these principles.”
