Abdel Latif El Houari, Acting Director of Export Support Mechanisms at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, revealed that more than 20 draft agreements are ready to be signed during the Intra-African Trade Expo scheduled to be held in Algiers from September 4 to 10.

In an interview with the National Radio One on Wednesday, Abdel Latif El Houari confirmed that the volume of intra-African trade is approaching $170 billion in 2024. He expressed Algeria’s hope to secure multiple bilateral contracts and agreements with African companies during this event, expecting that the total bilateral agreements between African countries will reach around $44 billion.

Regarding Algeria’s trade volume with African countries, El Houari confirmed it exceeded $5 billion, including over $2.6 billion in Algerian exports to African countries, of which non-oil exports accounted for about $700 million. Meanwhile, Algerian imports from African countries reached about $2 billion in 2024.

The speaker highlighted a slight growth in Algeria’s trade volume with African countries between 2023 and 2024, reaching 3%, and confirmed Algeria’s ambition to raise this percentage to 35% in the coming years.

El Houari also confirmed that Algeria’s exports to Africa during 2024 and the first five months of 2025 accounted for about 11% of Algeria’s exports worldwide. The main African countries to which Algeria exported its products are Egypt, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Senegal. The main countries from which Algeria imported are South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Libya, and Mauritania.
