The Ministry of Interior stated today that information and investigations by the Public Security and Anti-Narcotics and Unlicensed Weapons sectors confirmed attempts by criminal cells in several governorates, involving highly dangerous criminals, to bring in large quantities of narcotics and unlicensed firearms in preparation for trafficking.

They were tracked and targeted in coordination with the Central Security Sector, resulting in the death of 4 highly dangerous criminals sentenced to prison and life imprisonment for crimes related to murder, attempted murder, drugs, armed robbery, and possession of firearms.

The ministry confirmed the arrest of the remaining members of these cells in the governorates of Minya, Assiut, and Qena, in possession of about 398 kilograms of various narcotics including hashish, methamphetamine (shabu), heroin, hydro, and some pills, in addition to 84 firearms including 18 automatic rifles, 37 shotguns, 21 single-barrel shotguns, and 8 pistols.

The ministry estimated the financial value of the seized narcotics at approximately 59 million Egyptian pounds.
