Two Egyptian sources confirmed that the victims of the fatal car accident that occurred 50 km from the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh before the Peace Summit are not diplomats participating in the negotiations.

The sources told RT Arabic that the victims who died were Qatari security guards and protocol officials who had arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh to participate in the arrangements and protocol work for receiving the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, during his participation in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.

The accident happened on Saturday evening on the Sharm El-Sheikh-Tor Sinai road, where a Qatari diplomatic car carrying members of the delegation arranging the reception for the Emir of Qatar overturned, resulting in the deaths of Hassan Jaber Al-Jaber, Abdullah Ghanem Al-Khuraim, and Saud bin Thamer Al-Thani, who are employees of the Amiri Diwan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Two others were seriously injured and transferred to Tor Sinai Hospital.

An international summit titled “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit” was held in Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday afternoon, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, with the participation of leaders from more than twenty countries.

Egyptian sources denied the media reports claiming that the three victims were members of the team of Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani involved in the accident.

The Egyptian presidency confirmed that the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and open a new chapter of regional security and stability.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency indicated that the summit comes in light of U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision to achieve peace in the region and his keen efforts to end conflicts worldwide.
