Reporters Without Borders strongly condemned the confirmed assassination of Al Jazeera reporter Anas Al-Sharif, who was killed along with four other journalists from the channel’s crew in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City. The Israeli army acknowledged targeting him. The press freedom organization stated that Anas Al-Sharif was one of the most prominent journalists in Gaza, voicing the suffering imposed by Israel on Palestinians in Gaza. It called for urgent international action to stop the Israeli army. The organization emphasized that the UN Security Council must urgently convene based on Resolution 2222 of 2015 concerning the protection of journalists in armed conflicts to prevent similar unlawful killings of media workers. It also indicated that it has filed four complaints against the Israeli army at the International Criminal Court for committing war crimes against journalists in Gaza.
