Medvedev arrived in Pyongyang leading a delegation from the United Russia party visiting North Korea at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, to participate in the 80th anniversary celebrations of the party’s founding, scheduled for October 10.

The Workers’ Party of Korea is the ruling party in North Korea. The party’s founding date is considered October 10, 1945, when the North Korean Organization Bureau of the Korean Communist Party was formed at a meeting of representatives from communist organizations in five provinces of North Korea. Until 1946, it was known as the Korean Communist Party.
