White House officials said that U.S. President Donald Trump handed a message from his wife Melania to Russian President Vladimir Putin during their meeting in Alaska.

Officials did not disclose the content of the message, only stating that it concerned the fate of children alleged to have been kidnapped during the conflict in Ukraine. The International Criminal Court had issued several accusations against the Russian president in 2023 for his alleged role in the war crime involving the kidnapping and transfer of these children from occupied areas in Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

However, the text of the message, obtained and published online by Fox News, does not mention kidnappings or transfers of children from occupied Ukrainian territories to Russia.

The message begins with the phrase “Dear President Putin.” Every child shares the same peaceful dreams in their heart, whether born randomly in a rural nation or in the heart of a magnificent city. They dream of love, opportunities, and safety from danger.

“A simple and profound concept, Mr. Putin, and I am sure you agree with me, is that the grandchildren of every generation start their lives with purity—a innocence that transcends geography, government, and ideology,” the First Lady of America added. “But in today’s world, some children are forced to smile quietly, unaffected by the darkness surrounding them, in a silent defiance of the forces that may control their future.”

Melania Trump concluded her message saying, “It is a bold idea that transcends all human differences, and you, Mr. Putin, are capable of implementing this vision with the stroke of a pen today… The time has come.”

Melania Trump, born in Slovenia, did not attend the peace summit between Trump and Putin at the Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday.

However, she had previously stated that her ambition as the First Lady of the United States was to be like Eleanor Roosevelt, who was famous for her work defending children’s rights and welfare during Franklin Roosevelt’s presidency.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Yermak said on Saturday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the U.S. First Lady in his call with Trump on Saturday.

“During the conversation, President Zelensky also expressed his gratitude to First Lady Melania Trump for her sincere concern and efforts to return forcibly deported Ukrainian children,” Yermak said on X. “This is truly a humanitarian act.”

Before Friday’s summit, the White House stated that Russia’s kidnapping of more than 20,000 Ukrainian children “remains a concern” for Trump seven months into his second presidency. Moscow had previously stated that it protects children at risk from war zones.
