Dr. Mac Sharkawy, a political writer and researcher from the United States, commented on the developments following the signing of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, affirming that Egyptian efforts were very clear and strong in reaching the agreement. He noted that he had anticipated a breakthrough before the conclusion of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

In a phone interview on the program Al-Hayat Al-Youm with journalist Lubna Asal on Al-Hayat TV, Sharkawy said that what was achieved is a new victory added to Egypt’s accomplishments in Middle East issues. He added that the timing of the agreement coinciding with the anniversary of the October victories carries significant symbolic meaning.

He praised President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s invitation to U.S. President Donald Trump to attend the signing ceremony, considering it a gracious invitation from the leader of a major regional country. He explained that Trump announced his welcome and confirmed his upcoming visit to Egypt on the coming Saturday or Sunday to attend the signing officially.

Dr. Mac pointed out that the American gratitude for Egypt’s role was clear, noting that Egypt had actually moved on the ground 72 hours earlier, where Egyptian bulldozers entered the Gaza Strip to prepare the land and start creating temporary safe zones to receive Palestinians. He confirmed that Cairo is working seriously to implement what was agreed upon, away from theoretical statements.
