French President Emmanuel Macron proposed during peace talks with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and other EU leaders on Monday to hold a future quadrilateral meeting on Ukraine including Europe. He said the idea of a trilateral meeting including the US, Russia, and Ukraine is very important as it is the only way to fix the situation, but suggested Europe should also participate without specifying who should represent the continent. Macron added that a quadrilateral meeting is needed as security guarantees concern the security of the entire European continent. The Monday meeting at the White House also included leaders from Britain, Germany, Italy, Finland, the EU, and NATO who traveled to Washington to show solidarity with Ukraine and urge strong security guarantees for Kyiv in any post-war settlement.

A European Union diplomat told Reuters that US President Donald Trump interrupted his talks in Washington with European leaders to call Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks are scheduled to resume after the call, which Trump initially said he would make after consulting European leaders. German newspaper Bild reported the same interruption and planned resumption of meetings. German, British, French, Italian, Finnish, and EU leaders accompanied Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on his visit to Washington, along with NATO’s Secretary-General.
