Elon Musk filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI in Texas federal court, accusing the companies of colluding to integrate ChatGPT into Apple’s iPhone operating system and suppress the Grok app. According to a report by The Independent, Musk, owner of X AI which developed Grok, accused Apple of suppressing Grok in the App Store and deliberately blocking approval of new updates. Musk claimed that Grok not receiving top ratings in the Apple Store was a ‘conspiracy.’ This lawsuit marks a turning point in the long-standing conflict between Musk and OpenAI and its owner Sam Altman, who were initially friends and co-founded the company together. The 61-page complaint alleges that Apple and OpenAI collaborated to dominate the AI world, maintaining their monopoly and preventing innovators like X AI and X from competing.

The case centers on Apple’s decision to use ChatGPT as the AI-powered answer engine on iPhones when Siri fails to meet user needs. Musk was among the original founders of OpenAI as a non-profit to ensure AI benefits humanity. However, after OpenAI became a commercial company, Musk sued it over restructuring plans focused on profits, while OpenAI accused him of unfair competition and interference.
