The victory restored pride and dignity to all Arabs, and anyone who denies this is either ungrateful, ignorant, or malicious. Everyone knows that the enemy wishes to erase this memory from every Arab, especially Egyptians, because the October 6th anniversary is not only painful for them but also constantly frustrates them when they try to boast about their army’s heroism, strength, and superiority. Just recalling the Bar Lev Line is enough. Therefore, it is important that we celebrate, and that our children celebrate at home and in schools, the glorious October War.
Yes, we celebrate and sing the victory of the heroes and the strength of the men. Why not? It was described by historians as the greatest war since World War II, due to its ability to overturn the balance of power and astonish the world after military experts agreed that crossing was impossible.
Moreover, it was a war that combined fighting spirit and brilliant diplomacy. It proved the Egyptians’ ability to accomplish a monumental task through precise preparation and planning, courageous performance, and execution. It shattered the myth of the invincible Israeli army, as the Egyptian army managed to cross the Suez Canal and destroy the fortified Israeli defense line known as the Bar Lev Line. This war was a major disaster for the leaders in Tel Aviv to the extent that Golda Meir threatened to resort to nuclear weapons to save her army, while the United States hastened to provide direct military air support to assist and rescue Israel.
Therefore, we must not forget that this war confirmed the truth of Nasser’s vision: “What is taken by force can only be regained by force.” It proved the impossibility of imposing a fait accompli on the Egyptians and demonstrated that Egyptians cannot be forced into submission under the threat of arms. Moshe Dayan, the Israeli Defense Minister at the time, said, “The October War was like an earthquake that Israel experienced, and we did not have enough strength to push the Egyptians back again.”
Finally, the glorious October War will remain one of the bright and immortal memories in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict and in the memory of every Egyptian and Arab as a symbol of pride, dignity, and honor. It will remain a black mark and a painful memory for all who hate and resent Egypt and for anyone who seeks to bypass Egypt, its greatness, and its civilizations. Ask history!
