Today, Monday Washington time, the fourth meeting this year takes place between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

This meeting is highly significant and is considered by observers a historic turning point in the relationship between Trump and Netanyahu, as it will be the meeting where the US president seeks to finalize a peaceful settlement in the Middle East with its gradual elements, one after another, based on the following:

    • Immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
    • Exchange of all hostages within no more than 48 hours from signing the agreement.
    • Start of a gradual withdrawal from Gaza.
    • Initiation of administrative and security arrangements for the Gaza Strip including a civil Palestinian administration away from factions and under international supervision.
    • Start of dialogue about the future of an independent Palestinian entity, which will not occur before the second half of next year.

If Netanyahu chooses to respond to the right-wing hardline project and tries to evade Trump’s plan, this will be considered – by the US – a “major sin by Netanyahu.”

If Netanyahu is able to accept, promote, implement, and enforce these measures, then US-Israeli relations will improve significantly.

We must not forget that Trump’s political matters take personal dimensions. The closest example is his reversal from supporting and promoting Russian President Putin and defending his vision, to his latest stance calling on European countries to shoot down Russian drones, deciding to release the first US arms deal in his term to Ukraine, and not opposing strikes inside Russia!
