Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that Russia supports the territorial integrity of Syria, emphasizing Moscow’s readiness to provide assistance to Damascus to achieve this goal.

Lavrov said, in statements reported by the Russian news agency TASS on Tuesday: “The unity of Syria should be a concern for all countries that have influence over the situation in Damascus or over the various ethnic, sectarian, and political groups throughout the country.”

He added: “There are traditional concerns that the Kurdish issue might explode, as any moves towards autonomy or secession in Syria could have repercussions extending to other countries in the region,” pointing out that these developments represent “serious risks” requiring coordination of regional and international efforts.

Lavrov concluded by affirming that Russia will continue to support its Syrian partners and is ready to cooperate with countries that have interests in Syria to maintain its stability and territorial unity.
