Lavrov told Indonesia’s “Kompas” newspaper that “as everyone knows, US President Donald Trump did not only threaten to impose high tariffs on products from several of Russia’s trading partners.”
He continued: “Such tariffs were imposed, for example, on India, which is considered a distinguished strategic partner for us and a major consumer of Russian goods, especially hydrocarbons.”
He added: “We appreciate New Delhi’s refusal to yield to pressure and its continued commitment to the principles of free trade.”
It is worth noting that the United States imposed additional tariffs last August on Indian exports by 25%, raising them to 50% due to India’s purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products, aiming to reduce Russian oil revenues to influence Moscow’s stance on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
