Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş affirmed that the Syrian government has made strenuous efforts to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of Syria.
Anadolu Agency quoted Kurtulmuş in a speech today before the “Executive Meeting of the Speakers of Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Turkey” in the Pakistani capital Islamabad: “The new Syrian government has made strenuous efforts to ensure the safety of the country’s territory, its political unity, and stability, and recently established the legislative body by organizing the People’s Assembly elections.”
Kurtulmuş added: “We believe that all parties must work with shared responsibility to ensure stability in Syria, prevent conflicts, and guarantee lasting peace.”
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Kurtulmuş stressed the necessity of holding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government accountable for committing genocide over two years, which claimed tens of thousands of Palestinian lives and used starvation as a weapon.
He pointed out that thanks to humanitarian initiatives and the efforts of pro-Palestine parliaments, the genocidal war waged by Israel for two years in the Gaza Strip has stopped. Efforts must now continue to ensure the ceasefire’s continuation, end the starvation of Palestinians in Gaza, end Israel’s illegal occupation and siege, and achieve lasting peace.
Kurtulmuş continued: It is essential to continue the political struggle until achieving the two-state solution and establishing a fully independent Palestinian state.
Last Thursday, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on the first phase of his plan for a ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of prisoners and detainees, saying: “This means that all hostages will be released very soon, and that Israel will withdraw its forces to an agreed line as a first step towards a strong and lasting peace, and all parties will be treated fairly.”
