The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Conference convened under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump with international attendance. It included the signing of a comprehensive document to end the Gaza war amid widespread applause and welcome, marking the closure of a painful chapter of escalation lasting over two years in the Middle East.
On behalf of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Head of the Presidential Court, participated in the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit” aimed at “ending the war in the Gaza Strip, enhancing efforts to establish peace and stability in the Middle East, and opening a new chapter of regional security and stability.”
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and U.S. President Donald Trump signed the document at the opening session of the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit” in front of leaders and officials from more than 30 countries and international organizations.
During the signing, Trump said, “This is a great day for the Middle East,” adding that the agreement between Israel and Hamas will hold. He noted that the document would set the rules and regulations.
A Vision for Peace and Prosperity
After signing, Trump held a copy of the document bearing the parties’ signatures and wrote above them: “We seek tolerance, dignity, and equal opportunities for everyone to ensure this region is a place where all can realize their aspirations for peace, security, and economic prosperity regardless of race, religion, or ethnic origin.”
The document added, “We commit to a comprehensive vision of peace, security, and shared prosperity in the region based on mutual respect and common destiny.”
It continued, “We welcome progress made in establishing comprehensive and sustainable peace arrangements in the Gaza Strip, as well as the friendly and fruitful relations between Israel and its neighbors in the region. We pledge to work collectively to implement and preserve this legacy, building institutional foundations on which future generations can thrive together in peace, committing ourselves to a future of lasting peace.”
Trump, in his opening remarks, thanked the Egyptian president, noting he leads a country with a civilization spanning 7,000 years. He also thanked the Turkish president, describing him as “an amazing man and expressing gratitude for his wonderful friendship,” and said his country has one of the best armies in the world.
He also thanked Qatar for its efforts, praising its Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as an amazing leader.
Outstanding Issues
Before signing, Trump announced that some issues remain unresolved, including the matter of Israeli prisoners’ bodies. He said, “They are still under investigation, and field teams are working on the ground to locate the bodies.”
He said negotiations related to the Gaza agreement proceeded “smoothly and unexpectedly,” affirming that all parties are “satisfied and happy with the outcome.”
He added, “The Gaza agreement is the largest and most complex in modern history,” noting it represents “an unprecedented diplomatic achievement” involving many regional and international parties.
The U.S. president stressed that the goal of the agreement is to achieve stability and prevent the expansion of conflict, saying, “We do not want a third world war, and we are working to ensure peace prevails in the region and the world.”
Following the signing of the “historic document,” Trump said hundreds of trucks loaded with medicines and food will flow into the Gaza Strip.
He added, “Together we have achieved what everyone said was impossible — peace in the Middle East,” clarifying that the war in Gaza has ended. The U.S. president noted that “the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip starts now, and this phase may be the toughest.”
Disarmament of the Gaza Strip
Trump pointed out that rebuilding Gaza requires the strip to be disarmed, adding, “It is important for us that the Middle East remains safe and stable.” He added, “This is a historic day with effects that will go beyond the Middle East, and we will launch a Peace Council that will include some leaders from around the world.”
He explained that the United States is working hard in the Middle East, saying, “We are here to celebrate the end of the war in Gaza and the beautiful beginning for the Middle East. What we are doing deserves praise because it is special and a historic achievement that generations will remember.”
The signing of this document crowns intense diplomatic efforts led by Cairo, Doha, and Washington to support regional security and work to end armed conflicts in the region.
For his part, the Egyptian president affirmed the importance of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, praising the efforts of his American counterpart to reach it. He described the signing as “a historic turning point to end the war in Gaza and the birth of a beacon of hope, closing a painful chapter in human history and opening the door to a new era of peace and stability in the Middle East… granting the peoples of the region, exhausted by conflicts, a better tomorrow.”
The Last War in the Region
El-Sisi addressed his American counterpart, saying, “I would like to express our deep appreciation to you and your wise leadership for this journey under very delicate circumstances, reflected in your plan to end this tragic war that humanity has lost much in.”
He thanked partners in the United States, Turkey, and Qatar for their sincere efforts. El-Sisi told Trump, “You have proven that true leadership is not in waging wars but in the ability to end them… We are confident in your leadership to implement the current agreement and your plan in all its phases… Let the Gaza war be the last war in the Middle East.” He called on Israel to extend a hand to achieve just and lasting peace for all peoples in the region.
A Unique Opportunity
El-Sisi confirmed that Egypt will work with the United States and in coordination with all partners in the coming days to establish common foundations to move forward with the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without delay. He added that Egypt intends to host the Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development Conference, which will build on President Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, aiming to provide livelihoods for Palestinians on their land and give them hope.
The Egyptian president said, “We have a unique historic opportunity, perhaps the last, to reach a Middle East free from all that threatens its stability and progress… a Middle East where all its peoples enjoy peace and decent living within safe borders and protected rights… a Middle East resilient against terrorism and extremism… a Middle East free of all weapons of mass destruction… This is the new Middle East that Egypt aspires to realize in cooperation with its regional and international partners.”
