The South Korean presidential office announced today that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and US President Donald Trump will hold their first summit in Washington on August 25 to discuss security issues and cooperation in advanced industries. The presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung explained that Lee will depart on August 24 for a three-day visit to the United States, his first since taking office in early June. The two presidents plan to explore ways to develop the South Korea-US alliance into a comprehensive strategic alliance oriented towards the future, responding to changes in the international security and economic environment. They are also expected to discuss industrial cooperation in semiconductors, batteries, and shipbuilding, based on the trade agreement the two countries signed earlier this month.
