Melania Trump took a unique step by drafting a letter calling for peace in Ukraine, asking her husband, US President Donald Trump, to personally deliver it to Russian President Vladimir Putin during their meeting on Friday in Alaska.

The letter did not mention Ukraine by name, which Putin’s forces invaded in 2022, but urged him to remember the children and “an innocence that transcends geography, government, and ideology.” The First Lady did not address the violence, except to tell Putin that he alone could restore “the sweet laughter” of children trapped in the conflict.

Written on official White House stationery, she wrote: “By protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone – you will serve humanity itself.”

A copy of the letter was first obtained by Fox News Digital and later shared on social media by supporters of the US president, including Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The First Lady said Putin could help these children with the stroke of a pen.

Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has led to Russia taking Ukrainian children from their country to be raised as Russian citizens. The Associated Press documented the kidnapping of Ukrainian children in 2022, and subsequently, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Putin for war crimes, accusing him of personal responsibility for the abductions from Ukraine.
