Flaword, the leading online flower and gift delivery destination in the Middle East and the UK, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support the global MADE51 initiative, which aims to economically empower refugees by supporting the handicrafts they produce and connecting them to global markets.

This partnership is part of Flaword’s 2025 sustainability, governance, and social responsibility strategy, as the company seeks to offer gifts with a humanitarian and sustainable character while supporting underprivileged communities through impactful and long-term initiatives.

Through this collaboration, Flaword will soon launch a special collection of gifts designed and handmade by refugees from around the world, to be showcased on its platform as part of its commitment to providing responsible and sustainable products to its customers and enabling refugee artisans to achieve sustainable income while preserving their dignity and craft skills.

The UNHCR launched the MADE51 initiative in 2018, a global effort to support refugee artisans through training, capacity building, and linking them to international markets, giving them the opportunity to showcase their craftsmanship and generate income sources that enable them to rebuild their lives and preserve their cultural heritage.

Abdulaziz Basem Al Logani, Chairman and CEO of Flaword, said: “Through this partnership, Flaword aims to combine beauty and meaning by offering gifts made with creativity and hope, and real support for those most in need of economic empowerment. This step represents a convergence between our mission as a responsible brand and the UNHCR’s vision to support refugees worldwide.”

Dr. Najia Hafsa, Deputy Regional Representative of UNHCR in Saudi Arabia, said: “This partnership with Flaword is a great example of how solidarity with refugees can be translated into tangible action on the ground, highlighting the important role of the private sector in supporting refugees. Every MADE51 piece carries a story of resilience, creativity, and hope. This collaboration with Flaword will help us bring those stories to the world and assist refugees in building sustainable livelihoods and achieving greater self-reliance.”

This initiative reflects Flaword’s broader commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, supporting underprivileged communities through innovative solutions that combine humanitarian impact with aesthetic value.
