US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that there are no plans to send ground troops to Gaza or Israel, noting that Hamas will hand over detainees at any moment now.

Two days ago, Reuters reported, citing senior US officials, that the United States will deploy 200 troops as part of a joint task force to ensure stability in Gaza, without any actual US presence on the ground in the Palestinian territory.

According to Reuters quoting a senior US official, the special joint task force in Gaza “will include soldiers from Egypt and Qatar.”

Associated Press also quoted US officials saying the United States “will send about 200 soldiers to Israel to help support and monitor the Gaza ceasefire agreement as part of a team including partner countries, NGOs, and private sector entities.”

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details not authorized for disclosure, explained that the US Central Command will establish a “civil-military coordination center” in Israel to help facilitate the flow of humanitarian, logistical, and security aid to the lands torn by a two-year war.

AFP also quoted US officials saying that “200 US troops will oversee the proper implementation of the Gaza agreement.”

On Thursday, Israel announced that all concerned parties signed in Egypt the final draft of the agreement on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan regarding Gaza.

This is considered a key milestone towards ending the two-year-long war in the besieged and devastated Palestinian territory, which has caused tens of thousands of deaths and a humanitarian catastrophe according to the United Nations.
