United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday welcomed the agreement announced by U.S. President Donald Trump that Israel and Hamas reached to implement the first phase of his peace plan in Gaza, urging all concerned parties to “fully respect its terms.”
Guterres said in a statement, “All hostages must be released humanely. A permanent ceasefire agreement must be reached. Fighting must stop completely… The suffering must end,” stressing that the United Nations is ready to increase humanitarian aid supplies and participate in rebuilding the devastated Palestinian territory.
