We seek to punish Tel Aviv and stop supplying it with weapons after confirming a clear intent to destroy the Palestinians.

According to Williams, the association will work to push countries to punish Tel Aviv and halt arms supplies, after confirming a clear and declared intent to destroy and eliminate Palestinians in Gaza.

The issue goes beyond killing tens of thousands of civilians; it extends to destroying livelihoods, agriculture, healthcare, denying access to drinking water, and systematic starvation aimed at destroying the Palestinian people, according to the spokesperson.

More importantly, statements by political and military leaders of the occupation clearly express their intent to destroy the Palestinians, which is the essence of the crime of genocide legally, Williams said.

The association hopes that after this decision, it will enter the global debate about the final characterization of what is happening in Gaza, and help strengthen the work of the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice to punish the occupation leaders.

The association also hopes to push countries to activate international law that prohibits governments from assisting states committing genocide, in order to stop arming the occupation and pressure it to end its crimes.

Thinking about the future of the Palestinians, alongside its work to stop the war and punish the occupation, the association will work to push countries to consider the Palestinians’ future in a way that rejects plans violating the remaining Palestinian rights, such as former US President Donald Trump’s plan targeting the displacement of Gaza’s residents, according to Williams.

The spokesperson pointed to a recent shift in the positions of some European countries, such as France, Germany, and Britain, describing it as an important step in the right direction, but stressed that more effort is needed to stop this genocide and punish the occupation and its army.

Earlier today, the presidency of the largest association of scholars specializing in genocide research worldwide announced it had approved a decision stating that the legal criteria for proving the occupation’s commission of genocide in Gaza have been met.

86% of the 500 voting members of the association supported the decision, which states that the occupation’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide as outlined in Article 2 of the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The Government Media Office in Gaza welcomed the decision, describing it as a prestigious scientific endorsement that strengthens the evidence before international courts.
