Al Jazeera sources revealed that mediators have received positive responses from both the Palestinian and Israeli delegations regarding the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, confirming that the agreement is in its final drafting stage after overcoming all major obstacles.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 12 quoted Israeli officials saying the agreement will be signed today, Thursday, and the first release of detainees will be either Saturday or Sunday.
In this context, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation quoted an Israeli official as saying preparations are underway for a possible announcement of the deal in the coming hours.
Shortly before, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio handed a memo to President Trump live on air during a roundtable meeting.
CNN reported that the memo Rubio handed to Trump during the roundtable seems to indicate that an agreement regarding Gaza is very close.
CNN also quoted a White House official expecting President Trump to soon post on the Truth Social platform.
In the same vein, AFP reported that Washington is preparing a speech text that Trump is expected to deliver to announce the Gaza agreement.
After receiving the memo, President Trump told reporters that the Secretary of State told him he needed him urgently “because we are very close to a Middle East agreement.”
Trump indicated that Rubio just told him “they are about to reach a Middle East agreement.”
The US president added that he will work to achieve peace in the Middle East and may travel “to the Middle East before the release of the hostages,” with Egypt as a likely destination.
When asked if he would consider visiting Gaza, Trump replied, “I might do that, but I have not made a definite decision.”
Following this, the White House announced that Trump will undergo his annual routine check-up on Friday and is considering traveling to the Middle East thereafter.
