An American official told Al Jazeera that US forces have begun establishing a coordination center inside Israel to support President Donald Trump’s peace plan efforts in the Gaza Strip.
The official explained that the forces will coordinate the entry of humanitarian aid, as well as manage logistical and security efforts related to the plan.
He added that the vanguard of US forces has already started arriving in Israel, with an expected total of about 200 soldiers.
The official noted that it is not expected for US forces to deploy inside the Gaza Strip.
Earlier on Thursday, US President Donald Trump said that negotiations over the past days have led to an agreement to end the war in Gaza, confirming that he will soon travel to the Middle East.
He confirmed that the prisoner release operation will take place on the coming Monday or Tuesday, pointing out that there will be a signing ceremony in Egypt, according to him.
Trump expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their help in reaching what he described as a “wonderful outcome.”
He said he believes that “the peace we helped achieve in the Middle East will be sustainable,” affirming that “all countries in the region agreed on peace.”
