Israel’s Channel 12 revealed that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is holding urgent phone consultations regarding amendments to the lists of Palestinian prisoners to be released under the Trump plan.

According to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation “Kan,” an urgent phone survey was conducted among ministers including amendments to the decision, which included:

    • Replacing two security prisoners on the approved list with two Hamas members who are not serving life sentences.
    • Removing seven minors from Gaza out of 22, and adding two women instead, making the total number of Gazans to be released 1718 instead of 1722.
    • Preparing a backup list of five names that can be used if needed to avoid a new vote at night.

The channel pointed out that the most prominent name on the backup list is Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who was included under pressure from Hamas and regional mediators, amid high expectations from the movement that he will be included in the release.

The channel stated that including Dr. Abu Safiya’s name in the “extra” list means the battle to free him is still ongoing, and his fate awaits final approval from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
