BYD, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer in China, officially unveiled the Seal 05 DM-i 2026, a new hybrid electric car setting a new industry benchmark with an astonishing total driving range of 2000 km (1243 miles) on a single fuel tank and full charge.

The Seal 05 DM-i 2026 relies on BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM hybrid system, combining a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a front-mounted electric motor to enhance performance and efficiency, according to Interesting Engineering.

The gasoline engine produces up to 99 horsepower and 93 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motor delivers 161 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to this combination, the sedan accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds.

This combination reflects BYD’s continued improvement of its hybrid engines, achieving a balance between smooth urban driving and highway performance without compromising fuel economy.

The Chinese automaker equipped the 2026 Seal 05 DM-i with a distinctive 15.87 kWh Blade battery, significantly enhancing its ability to rely solely on electric power, increasing the pure electric driving range from just 34 miles to 80 miles according to CLTC tests.

When fully charged, the hybrid sedan achieves an impressive total driving range of about 2000 km, setting a new standard for plug-in hybrid vehicles.

According to NEDC tests, the Seal 05 DM-i maintains exceptional efficiency, with an average fuel consumption equivalent to 76 miles per gallon, making this model one of the most fuel-efficient hybrids on the market.

Inside, the 2026 BYD Seal 05 DM-i features an elegant and practical interior design, including a flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen. The infotainment system runs on BYD’s DiLink platform, providing access to navigation, multimedia, and vehicle settings.

Seal 05 DM-i sales have exceeded 49,000 units, accounting for 2.5% of total volume.

Sales continued to rise in August, with 13,495 units sold that month. From January to August 2025, total sales reached 49,821 units, representing about 2.5% of BYD’s total sales during that period.
