The Syrian Artists Syndicate – Damascus branch posted on Facebook: “Our heartfelt condolences to our colleague, the esteemed artist Mayada Hanawi, on the death of her brother, music researcher Othman Hanawi.. Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return.”
He worked at the Syrian mission in Cairo during the 1970s.
He was the one who introduced his sister Mayada to the musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab while she was in Egypt, and that meeting marked the beginning of her major artistic breakthrough.
Thanks to him, Mayada entered the Egyptian artistic scene and collaborated with prominent composers such as Baligh Hamdi and Riad Al Sunbati.
