Yas Sorop leads Al Ahly’s training today, Friday, for the first time after officially taking over the team’s coaching responsibilities. A large number of players continue to be absent from Al Ahly’s training due to the international calendar and injuries, which Walid Salah El-Din will convey to the Danish coach during their anticipated meeting today to discuss several team-related files, understand Sorop’s working method, vision for the upcoming phase, training schedules, and nature of his work.

The team is preparing to face Burundian club AS Kigali at their stadium on October 18 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32. The team is scheduled to travel on either October 15 or 16 via a private plane.

Danish coach Yas Sorop, the new head coach of Al Ahly, arrived at Cairo International Airport at 9:15 PM yesterday, Thursday, on an EgyptAir flight from Copenhagen.

Sorop arrived in Cairo on flight MS 760, which was scheduled to depart Denmark at 3:45 PM Copenhagen time and arrive in Cairo at 9:15 PM local time.

The Danish coach will lead Al Ahly’s training tomorrow, Friday, at Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium, after club officials recently finalized his contract to lead the team for two seasons, succeeding Spaniard Jose Ribeiro, who was dismissed following the loss to Pyramids on August 30. Emad El-Nahhas is currently serving as interim coach.

Sorop previously coached Denmark’s under-21 national team, leading them to the semifinals of Euro 2015, before moving on to a notable stint with Midtjylland; he won the league in the 2017-2018 season and made a significant European impact by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League.
