Journalist and media personality Samir Omar, head of the news channels sector at the United Media Services Company, responded to a question by journalist Ahmed Abu Zeid: “The tone of optimism throughout this summit was very noticeable, but President Donald Trump seems to have raised the level of optimism.. Is this excessive optimism or is logic leading us to this?” This was during his discussion of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.

He said in an interview with Ahmed Abu Zeid on Al Kahera News Channel: “Excessive optimism aligns with Donald Trump’s personality; he claimed to have stopped 8 wars in 8 months, but we can set that aside.. Are there reasons and data that call for optimism? Yes, we described the indirect negotiations between Hamas, Palestinian resistance factions, and the Israeli side as cautious optimism, until both parties agreed and the US pushed Netanyahu to accept this deal, as well as the efforts played by Cairo, Doha, and later Ankara joining this path.”

He continued: “We moved from cautious optimism to optimism, but in the Israeli case and under Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, we should not be overly optimistic, as this man is known to backtrack on his agreements and break his promises. The guarantee is not only American but requires the presence of international powers to continue this path.”

He explained that for this path to bear fruit, it must lead to a political settlement based on the two-state solution, a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and there will be no calm without achieving this.
