Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on Tuesday criticized the Gaza peace plan announced by US President Donald Trump and supported by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a post on X, Smotrich described the plan as a “resounding diplomatic failure and a disregard for all the lessons of the October 7 attack” launched by Hamas against Israel, which ignited the war in Gaza.

He added, “In my view, it will also end in tears. Our children will be forced to fight in Gaza again.”

In a longer tweet, Smotrich said, “After October 7, and after two years of dedication, heroism, and sacrifices made by our people, with painful losses and great achievements thanks to God and on all fronts, we cannot return to old policies that place our security in the hands of external parties, or rely on illusions that others will do the work for us.”

He added, “Nor can real achievements on the ground be replaced by political illusions or by settling for shiny diplomatic celebrations and slogans like ‘two-state solution’ or ‘Palestinians governing Palestinians,’ or talk of a Palestinian police force trained by Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar as a central player.”

He continued, “All this is just a return to the old Oslo concepts, a historic waste of the opportunity to break free from them, a major political failure, and ignoring the lessons of October 7. In my opinion, this path will end in tears, and our children will have to fight again in Gaza. This is what Einstein described as madness: repeating the same actions and expecting different results.”

Meanwhile, international countries and organizations welcomed the peace proposal presented by US President Donald Trump to end the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas.

The United Nations confirmed its readiness to support Trump’s peace plan, with a spokesperson telling journalists in New York in response to a question about the plan: “We welcome all mediation efforts, and the UN is ready to provide support, including, as expected, humanitarian aid.”
