Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam received Maurizio Martina, Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the organization’s regional representative Abdel Hakim Al-Waer, and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani.
The officials reaffirmed “FAO’s support for Lebanon,” emphasizing that “the organization’s commitment goes beyond emergency and immediate response to ensure that urgent aid helps pave the way for recovery and enhances long-term resilience.”
They also reviewed with the Prime Minister “the projects implemented by the organization in Lebanon,” stressing that “the Lebanese agricultural sector has the potential to transform from a local sector meeting domestic market needs into a productive sector capable of exporting and actively contributing to strengthening the national economy, and the organization is fully prepared to provide the necessary support and expertise in this regard.”
The delegation pointed out that “their agenda includes a visit to Syria as well,” considering that “this path gains special importance for Lebanon, as enhancing food security and the agricultural sector in Syria will positively reflect on strengthening sustainable return opportunities for Syrian refugees to their country.”
